S:3 Episode:87

In this episode DMM Catalyst, Robert Stovall, speaks to the role of pastors in disciple making in our churches and what it means to follow Jesus in his word. He speaks to church in North America as an institution in our culture, and how making disciples is sometimes lost in the building of our churches. He speaks to the work of pastors is to equip the church for the work of ministry, but many of our pastors have not been discipled. How do we learn so we can give away what has not been given to us?

God what do you want our vision to be? Chris and the church in Lubbock prayed this prayer when they had seen 10,000 new followers of Jesus in their city. They had seen the initial vision happen…10,000 new followers of Jesus in 8 years! They prayed again asking God for his vision for them. In this episode Chris shares how the Lord gave them a vision for their entire region, and what that started to mean for their church.

In part 1 of this mini series, Kelley shared how Jesus taught us to go to the home, but we tend to go to the building. In this episode we hear from Kelley on how the Holy Spirit directs our steps to learn from Jesus. God is doing a new thing in Northern Colorado, and we see in the scriptures Jesus’ way of teaching us how to live into a new way to worship. Jesus’ entire earthly ministry was a ministry of vulnerability. We must be vulnerable in order to minister like Jesus taught, modeled, and expects.

The questions we ask are important…Sometimes I hear the question, "Will DMM work in North America?".  This question is a bit of a bad question. The better question is, what does Jesus command? What is it going to take? In this episode Kelley  (teaching gift on display showing us the teachings of Jesus) unpacks the bible for us to show us how Jesus taught the disciples and how Jesus wants to teach us.

This episode is part 1 of a conversation with our friend and local DMM practitioner, Kelley, who shares with us his experiences and the importance of training for the Great Commission. We Christians in the west have been taught the way of Christ through our churches and ministries, but for us to gain a paradigm of how Jesus taught; we need training through specific and practical commands that are followed and practiced. Kelley is a brother who we’ve prayed with for years and have partnered with here locally to advance the gospel in NOCO. His contributions to DMM in NOCO are tremendous and we are thankful for his downloads to us today.

Jesus died, and was raised from the dead, hung out with his disciples before he ascended and the last thing he said to them was to carry on the mission. They were to be a part of that co mission and it was a command to go and make disciples of all nations. Here’s the point…are we doing that?

Jesus said if you love me obey my commandments. In America we tend to be knowledge focused/increasing knowledge rather than action and obeying the scriptures. Legalism might focus on an outward system forcing an internal change, while obedience is an internal response which creates an outward change. We think DMM focusing on simple obedience is more a response to the Spirit’s leading rather than trying to force people to do what God says. We also think spiritual maturity is measured by love…which says something to our maturation as Christians if we tend towards knowing things rather than doing things. Love increases as we obey Jesus. These are a few of the ideas discussed as we close out this mini series.

DMM NOCO is committed to focusing on the Great Commission, and we believe decentralization is key to unleashing disciple makers in natural networks. As we see the gospel go as we are going it seems to make sense that the church would decentralize for the sake of the gospel. The centralization of the work is around Jesus and the Holy Spirit rather than the organization of a church system. In this episode we talk about how both centralized work and decentralized work support one another to see DMM unleashed in natural networks.

S:3 Episode:71

DMM NOCO uses a discovery method of reading the bible, and we sometimes hear pushbacks on this method. Discovery Bible Studies are designed to help people read the bible and hear from God without having to hear a sermon, understand the full context of the scriptures, or certainly not have formal training on reading the bible. The focus is having the lost read the bible for themselves not for the sake of having good theology, but for the purpose of hearing from God and take action.

North Americans have a growing awareness to the need to not just be disciples of Jesus, but to be disciple makers of Jesus. As we learn a lot through practice here in Northern Colorado we continue to be amazed at the need for disciple making, and as we are more aware of DMM here in North America we are also hearing more pushback against DMM. This episode is a conversation about a common pushback on DMM. Is DMM just chasing numbers?

Change is hard for many of us, and sometimes the changes that are offered challenge us and even can cause us to be defensive. Today we open a discussion on the idea of deconstruction in the western church. What does that mean in light of DMM, and how do we engage the culture when so many people are a part of the Nones.

The only way out of the dark for the lost is for someone to bring the light into the darkness and for there to be a guide to lead them out of the darkness. We who are in Christ Jesus were once lost, but now we’ve been found. We know the darkness, and we know the struggles of life which are common to man. We need to go and bring the light to those in darkness, into the cave where the lost are stuck. The Spirit is wanting to rescue the people in darkness. Jesus came to rescue the people walking in darkness. He sends us in the power of Holy Spirit to rescue the people in darkness.

We’re on a mission to Multiply Disciple Makers in Northern Colorado and see disciple making movements transform our communities.

This Podcast will help us by bringing the latest updates and lessons from the Global South and National DMM Leaders to us through our friend, DMM practitioner, and co-host Jeff Crabtree.

Jeff has been leaning into the Movement world since 2017 and has learned a lot about disciple making movements over this time. He and his wife, Kathy, live in Timnath Colorado and are leading practitioners of DMM Habits and principles in Northern Colorado.

Jeff has been a local church pastor for over 40 years and has sensed a call from the Lord to lean into DMM. His passion and experience are a great combination and blessing to DMM NOCO so we convinced him to start this podcast.

The primary emphasis is for Jeff to download what has been taught to him and what he has learned. Please get in touch with us for follow up as we pray together to see disciple making movements transform Northern Colorado to the glory of God and to the good of all people!
